      Hartlepool fishing cobles

    Horsley one-name study

Welcome to the Horsley pages. In the 1960s I began to research the maiden name of my mother, Dorothy Ann Nicholson. I found her Horsley fisherfolk ancestors so abundant in the records of the Norman ‘cathedral church’ of St Hilda at Hartlepool that it made sense to transcribe the entire register up to 1837. I did this with my wife, Beryl Nicholson, and the fine amateur historian William Boagey of West Hartlepool. Those early researches form the core of this one-name study. It is now much expanded by later investigations. I’m pleased to store this genealogy here for the benefit of future researchers. Harry Nicholson
